Black Opal Ring Description:

This is a stunning heavy 18 k yellow gold ring with a designer band featuring a beautiful green-blue black opal from the famous Lightning Ridge field.

The 3 adjunct diamonds are a nice addition to this beautiful stone. Its true the opal speaks for itself but for those who like to have diamonds they certainly do accompany the opal well and serve to show off the delights of the center stone.

You will notice that the stone is set with a ridge of gold surrounding it. This is called a bezel setting as opposed to a claw set ring which just holds the stone in with either four or more claws.

Both settings are satisfactory but the opal, not being a faceted stone, is safer with the rolled in setting which this ring features.

In recent times opal miners are becoming more civilized but at least until fairly recently no one really knew how many were there. The bush surrounding Lightning Ridge has multitudes of little camps made out of all sorts of pieces of tin and bush timber where the opal miners often reside.

Of course the town also has a modern housing area where a lot of visitors have come and decided to stay along with successful miners who could afford to own a house.
